Rental Shoes

Yes. Almost every bowling alley requires you to wear specialized bowling shoes to protect the specially treated lanes. These shoes also ensure a smooth, consistent slide during your delivery. 

Note: Most alleys provide rentals. However, you can buy your own if you play more often or you’re seeking more comfort.

Rentals are specialized bowling footwear designed with a universal sole, meaning they have a sliding sole on both feet for left- and right-handed bowlers. They’re also constructed with durable synthetic or leather uppers to withstand high use at bowling alleys and regular cleaning.

You can clean the upper part of your bowling shoes by wiping them with a damp cloth and mild soap. You can also use a damp cloth to clean your rubber/traction sole. 

Your sliding sole should be brushed with a wire brush. These shoe accessories help remove dirt and grit to maintain a consistent slide. Do not soak your sliding sole or use excessive water; this will damage your sole.

Rentals are generally made more for casual use. They have a classic “bowling alley” style and universal soles for immediate, consistent sliding on both feet – great for beginners, ambidextrous players, and casual bowlers. 

Regular bowling shoes may be designed with right-handed, left-handed, universal, or interchangeable soles. They also typically have more advanced features for comfort and performance.
